Don Calvano, an inliner and former member of Garden State Speedskating Club, is organizing inline sessions at Instant Replay in Morristown!

The first session in April 6th from 7PM to 9PM.
Sessions will be held every Thursday. If there is strong interest, he will add more sessions to each week.

Sessions will be hosted by registered inline coaches and the fee is ONLY $5 per session!

Don tells me that anyone with inline skates of any kind are more than welcome to join.

Please come out and support our fellow skaters. You'll probably catch the bug and join in yourself!

Instant Replay's directions are shown below. Their web site is www.irskate,com.

See you there!

You can reach Don at 732-985-2975 with any questions.

NEWBURGH SPEEDSKATING CLUB

CLUB ETIQUETTE

GENERAL

Please be on time.  We will be available from 6:30 to 6:50 to help with any equipment issues or questions about skating.  If you need more time, call one of us at the number below and we can get there early.  Stretching and warm ups really help the on-ice workout.  We will try to organize this effort for those interested starting at 6:30.   (Please do not show up at five to seven wanting to try on skates.)

Equipment.  Helmets, gloves, and knee pads are required before you can go on the ice.  Shin guards, neck guards, and cut-proof gloves are highly recommended.

 ON-ICE

Track Setup (7:00 to 7:05).  Please help setting up the mats and laying out the track.  Put your names on your water bottles and guards.  DO NOT SKATE UNTIL THIS IS DONE!

Warm up Skate (7:05 to 7:10).  Skate outside of the goal crease, NOT on the blocks.  (This keeps the track fresh for the session).  Skate no faster than 60% effort.  WATCH OUT FOR SKATERS ENTERING THE RINK!

Track Skating.  A lead skater will be chosen for each group.  Know which group you are in an be ready to skate on the track when your its your group’s turn. If you must exit the rink, please ask the group leader to watch the track while you cross.

NEWBURGH SPEEDSKATING CLUB

NATIONAL/REGIONAL MEMBERSHIPS AND RACING

GENERAL ORGANIZATION

The governing body for speedskating in this country is  “US Speedskating” (USS).  USS is made up of some 18 regional “Associations”.  The Newburgh Speedskating Club belongs to the Mid-Atlantic Skating Association (MASA).   Other clubs in the MASA are:

Taconic Speedskating Club – Brewster, New York (Mondays)
Yonkers Speedskating Club – Yonkers, New York (Wednesdays)
Yonkers Speedskating Club - White Plains, New York (Thursdays)
Garden State Speedskating Club – Mennen, New Jersey (Mondays)
Flushing Meadows Speedskating Club – Flushing, New York

(You can find more info about theses clubs as well as places to purchase skates, etc. at http://Speedskating.org    or http://USSpeedskating.org)

Individuals may skate in local clubs without joining either the USS or the MASA, however membership is encouraged and for the first year is only $25 (USS) and free for the MASA.  With your membership, you receive the “Racing Blade” and “Ice Chips” periodicals, as well as insurance that covers skating injuries that occur during club practice sessions and meets.  Membership forms are attached.

 RACING

METRO-SERIES RACES.  These are informal races held once per year at each of the local clubs in the MASA during their normal practice session time slot.  Novice skaters are encouraged to attend to get the feel of a real meet.  Cost is nominal and ribbons/metals are awarded for each race and for season totals.  Membership in the USS or MASA is not required.

USS Speedskating Meets.  Held throughout the winter at various rinks across the country.  Novices may race for the first year without being members of USS or MASA, however, non-novice racers must join both organizations.  Schedule is attached and updated at http://Speedskating.org
